This would be where I would summarize and integrate my twitter derived climate change info.
Today there were 3 articles from the climate action website that I am following on twitter.
1. "Sperm Whales as Carbon Sinks" which discusses how sperm whales deep sea diving for food brings up iron from below which in turns stimulates phytoplankton growth on the surface which when they die and sink below sequester large amounts of carbon on the ocean floor.
2. "A Forest and a Carbon Sink on Vashon " which discusses a restoration project on a 5 acre pit where the topsoil had been stripped and the soil would support only a verylimited plantlife cover. By adding compost a much larger biomass of trees and larger plants were supported and it was pointed out that that below the surface carbon storage was 5 t0 8 times that of the plant tissue above ground.
3. "Green Shoots Rise From Brownfields" which discusses how brownfield sites are ideal locations for solar and wind generated power plants as these are near or in urban areas and powerlines and don't compete with wildlife or commercial development. Some have already been constructed.

This class involves more serious effort than I was expecting. Oh well. Hopefully it will prove useful!
